i have had a really boring weekend. picture this - you wait, you think you are. yet you aren't.
anyway, i watched 3 movies last night. finally gave into the movie-craving. the first one was a HK comedy/drama (Love is Not all Around). the second was a real inspiration to me. it's like unlocking a door that leads you to rediscovering yourself and what you truly love doing (The History Boys). the third one was basically something i wanted to watch to kill time with. some crazed b-list comedy (Let's Go to Prison). enough about this weekend. it was a train-wreck waiting to happen.

The Beach (Bitch) Story - Sammy "Shinji" Koh

buzz buzz. the handphone's vibrations were loud enough to wake the dead. joelyn woke with a smirk on her face.

"it's time", she thought to herself, "finally... he's free to come out."

adam was as close as she would ever get to dating a superstar. his good looks and charm were all part of the package that made him irresistable to women. he was her classmate in high school and now even when she is a working woman, they meet up occasionally with friends. she always had a crush on adam. he was a close friend, the kind that you would never expect to build a BGR with, but yet sometimes love happens. call it the hormones or the smell of spring, but somewhere down their long time together, a relationship blossomed.

"such sweet sorrow", she wondered, "how i can hold two hands at once."

joelyn was attached. she met ben a couple of months ago at a friend's party and they've stuck to each other ever since. ben was a carefree guy, working hard to provide for her needs and wishes. he worked overtime on many occasions just to save up enough for a candle-light dinner for two at a posh restaurant. he treated her like a princess, fulfilled her every need. maybe not EVERY need. he was the common family man, holding the age old philosophy of work-home-work. he was predictable, lost his sense of adventure and excitement when he decided to settle down with her. "i'll marry her one day", he quipped to himself, "for sure the girl i marry will be her."

"meet me downstairs", adam's soft sultry voice made her hair bristle with anticipation, "i'll be there in about ten minutes."

"grrr..." adam's dog sat in the back seat growling at a mysterious metal object. when it grew into a full out barking session, adam decided an intervention was needed. stopping the car, he gave the poor pooch a quick pat on the head. sensing his master's displeasure, the white dog crouched low, weighing the odds of a spanking. as the silence crept in, adam saw as his dear canine companion looked as remorseful as ever. after a quick scratch, they were back on the road.

"come down you ready"... "that's got to be the funniest sms i've ever read", joelyn smiled. she loved how adam was always so seemingly crazy yet so comforting and reliable when he needed to be. she took her time like she always did, slowly combing her brown hair, adding a touch of make-up. "perfect", she complimented herself as she re-applied her lip gloss.

adam stared as she walked towards his car. he licked his lips as he watched her sashe pass the driver's window, her hips moving seductively whilst tossing her hair behind her. she entered the vehicle with a "hey adam" that sent whiffs of perfume streaming into the car. intoxicated and allured, they were off and on their way to East Coast Park.

quiet evenings were always adam's preference. he hated crowds and going to places chocked full of people made him uneasy. he liked the simple emptiness of the park at night. t'was a cloudy night, the rain clouds gathering he reckoned. nevertheless it was the company that made him feel most at ease. he held her hand as he took a deep breath of the crisp night air. holding her always made him feel secure, for he loved her... he truly did.

they walked towards the beach, hands swaying to the rhythm of the waves crashing against the pier. suddenly a strong gale blew between them, the force of which brought a obvious chill to joelyn. adam held onto her hand, but felt the freezing cold that now ran through her. his mind raced thinking of a way to bring her some warmth. "my jacket!", he thought, "that should do perfectly." he started to walk towards the car, when joelyn grabbed him and hugged him tightly. "well, this is a much better idea." he mused as he regained his composure and returned the hug with equal vigor. this was the first time they've had physical contact. with them it has always remained very civil, adam playing the part of the gentleman and joelyn his lady. but this brought new meaning to their relationship. he felt her soft hands returning with their warmth, her breath on his neck heated against the chill of the night. she continued with the embrace and adam was more than willing to provide it.

the stillness was marred with the sound of a piano playing in the background. a piano? in east coast park? the though eluded him as he regained his focus on the moment at hand. here he was, with the woman of his dreams wrapped in his arms. "what could possibly spoil this?" he pondered.

joelyn was happy. she was ecstatic at the prospect of finally moving on with adam. she always wondered if he would ever make the first move, but this night she took things into her own hands. she wanted adam. this was her chance.

"let's play a game. i call it the 'magical-tap-game'. it's really very simple. if i tap you on the right shoulder, you become a rock and cannot move - just like a rock. however if i tap you on the left shoulder, you become invisible and have to play the part as well."

"sure. i'd love to play that."

adam steadied himself. he raised his hand and tapped joelyn on her left shoulder.

"you're invisible now. i can't see you." adam cooed and was greeted with giggles.

"and it's because you're not here that i can find the courage... to tell you how i truly feel about you. i know we've had a rocky past and a mis-timed present, but i want us to have a brighter future... together. invisible-joelyn, i just want to tell you... that i love you." he whispered the words to her ears and closed his eyes waiting for a response. he flinched as he felt her hands cupping his face. she looked at him with teary eyes, her lips mouthing the words - "i love you".

like when floodgates open, tears came down both their cheeks as they embraced once more. her heart beating to his. they finally found the one thing in their lives that was missing - true love.

joelyn felt a tap on her right shoulder. she turned only to find it was adam's hand.

"i tapped your right shoulder, so now you're a rock. and you can't move at all." he said as he moved her body into a straight position.

"rocks can't see their surroundings either, so you have to close your eyes." adam stressed as he covered up her eyes.

he leaned forward, the smell of the perfume on her neck distracting him for a moment, with one hand he brushed her hairs to the side and with the other he softly glided his fingers over her lips. then in one last move, he pressed his lips against hers.

joelyn was surprised and secretly thrilled by his sudden courage. she felt the warmth from his lips slowly heating up her own. she relished moments like this. instances that seem so simple, yet become memories that last forever.

their passionate lip-lock enveloped the rest of their evening. something that neither would object to. for who would among you deny the course of true love?

The End.

Post-note:
Adam eventually won over joelyn's heart. ben's love life? wait for the next story.
they shared a warm cup of milo while waiting for the clouds to dissipate.
the poor pooch was left stranded in the car. the SPCA was called in.

All events are completely fictional. If you think they are based on real life occurances, then you must realize that it is COMPLETELY coincidental.
