here's the story of my really whacked weekend. i can't believe i actually survived it. it's all so si bei heng.

friday.

had to go to the mess because of the retarded yet rather gratifying 'happy hour'. this one was entitled 'ladies night', quite a oxymoron i fancy as there are like, less than 10 females? dumb huh? oh well, they held this 'grooming talk' for the first part and a belly-dance performance after. needless to say, i didn't stay for the latter. got a sms earlier in the day about dinner with the guys. haha, guess the timing just wasn't that right. tried to sleep early. slept for what seemed like an eternity only to awake finding the time to be 0100H. crap.

saturday.

which brings me to the 0100H. woke up. couldn't for the love of ... go back to sleep. decided to do something constructive with my time - i went to watch anime. LoL. found this one that terence had recommended through the manga. (Shakugan no Shana) i really cannot believe how addicted i am to these things. (sorta reminds me of harris) anyway, my saturday sucked. i came down with a fever. of course it started with a cough (no.. not a kiss), which became a sore throat, which beget a flu, then spawned a fever. it was horrible. needed to ice myself with those blue-colored-things-you-throw-in-the-fridge-to-chill. after some more medication and rest, the headache went away. was still feeling rather hot under the collar, but i managed to sleep it off... i think. i was damn demoralised. race day was 1 freaking day away.

sunday.

"Far better is it to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checked by failure...than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they live in a gray twilight that knows not victory nor defeat.
RACE DAY! woke up at around 0430H to grab my gear and head out to meet my friend and driver for this event. it was then i found out that he already ate breakfast. whilst i was wondering why he didn't ask that same question. nuts. headed down to the changi exhibition centre. looks damn new, damn big, damn crowded. even at 0600H there were throngs of cars and people. some warming up, some pinning up their race bibs, other scanning the area for missing friends. as the sun came up (the view.. breathtaking) and the gentle rays warmed the earth below, i knew it was go time. up to then, i was still having second thoughts about running. what if i collapse? what if i can't make it? what if i get a sudden onset of fever? the next thing i knew, i was already at the start point along with the thousands of other crazy nuts who run for fun. as the president took his place at the podium, the announcement was made. runners ready... Go! moving past the start point i managed to give his excellency a wave. never looked back to see if he reciprocated. the run was pretty thrilling. moving past people. grabbing the 100 plus and water at the drink points and throwing the cups like some wanna-be-marathon-guy. the hardest, most challenging part would be the 1km on the sand along changi beach. damn thing was so hard to run on. i thought it was going on forever. anyway, past the half-way mark, i manage to catch up to this bunch of chai running in front. without warning, one of them in red darted out in front of the rest. i quickly followed, for reasons other than speed, and soon neared to the finish point. poor chai, kenna overtaken at the last 300m. oh well. finished! 10km. headed immediately to the drink station and grabbed 2 cans of 100 plus and 1 bottle of ice mountain. did the advised stretching and took about half and hour to find my friend. super crowded. super lots of things to see/gaze/stare.
now i'm at home. typing this out. feeling the aching feeling all over my body. ouch.
was it worth it.. running while recovering from a fever? HELL YEAH!
would i do it again? HELL YEAH!
my dear red chai... or rather... too many chai. haha. i love runners. woo!

so that's my weekend. the bad... turned good. Life is fair. =)
